Frequently Asked Questions
Using the guides, checking examples, reporting issues and finding related practice.
What is Software Patterns Lexicon?
A free software-design and architecture reference published by Tokenizer Inc. It combines language guides, design patterns, code examples and system-design explanations. See About and the author profile.
Where should I start?
Choose a familiar language such as Java, Python, Clojure or Go. For a broader starting point, use design-pattern fundamentals. The homepage guide directory lists the available paths.
Does the library go beyond classic design patterns?
Yes. It includes language idioms, functional design, microservices, cloud architecture, event-driven systems, data modeling and enterprise integration. Start with the relevant guide rather than assuming every language needs the same pattern implementations.
Is access free? Do I need an account?
The guides are free to read without an account or subscription. Mastery Exam Prep apps are separate products with their own previews, access terms and pricing.
Is every code example tested?
No such blanket guarantee is made. Examples and verification depth vary across the library. Check version assumptions and try the code in a suitable local environment. Review security, failure handling and other production requirements before adapting a teaching example.
How is AI used?
AI tools are used in drafting, examples and revisions, and to assist review. The publisher directs the editorial work. We do not claim every page has been independently human-reviewed or every snippet executed. The editorial policy explains these limits and the corrections process.
Does a recent page date mean all technical details were checked?
No. A date can reflect publication or maintenance. Follow any explicit version or verification notes and compare time-sensitive APIs and behavior with current official documentation.
Where have the quizzes gone?
Embedded quizzes were retired in September 2026 following concerns about ambiguous answer sets. Code examples, diagrams, worked explanations and practical exercises remain. The library is a learning reference, not a scored exam-readiness assessment.
How does this site relate to Mastery Exam Prep?
Both are published by Tokenizer Inc. This site provides free technical reading. IT Mastery, available through Mastery Exam Prep, offers separate practice for supported IT and cloud exams on mobile and web. Check the product site for current coverage and access details.
Where do I get app or billing help?
Use Mastery Exam Prep support for IT Mastery, Finance Prep and PM Mastery. For an issue with this guide library, use our contact page.
How can I report an error or request a topic?
Send the URL and a short explanation to info@tokenizer.ca. Runtime versions, a counterexample or a source link can help. A suggested fix is optional. Contact and correction details.
Can I reuse code or teaching material?
Our Terms of Service describe reuse of text, diagrams and code. Check any page-specific or third-party licence notice. Linking to a page is different from republishing an article or distributing a course pack; contact us for permissions questions.
How should I cite a page?
Use the page title, Software Patterns Lexicon, its exact URL and the date you accessed it. Include a named author and version notes where relevant. Copy the actual page URL rather than constructing a path from its title.
Are print, dark mode and keyboard navigation available?
You can use your browser's Print or Save as PDF command. The site offers a theme selector and keyboard-accessible navigation. If content is clipped or a control is difficult to use, report the page and device details.
Does the site use analytics?
Yes. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand page usage and referrals. It loads automatically without an on-site preference dialog. See Privacy for storage and external-service details.
