How operational, service, executive, and investigative dashboards serve different questions and why mixing those roles weakens all of them.
Dashboard types exist because not every observability question is the same. An on-call responder trying to confirm live customer impact needs a different view than an engineering manager reviewing weekly service trends. A platform team tracking fleet saturation needs a different lens than an application team debugging one failing workflow. When one dashboard tries to serve all of those audiences at once, it usually serves none of them well.
The practical improvement is to classify dashboards by purpose before filling them with charts. That makes layout, signal choice, and drill-down behavior much easier to defend.

A good test is to ask what a person should do after opening the dashboard:
If the page cannot answer what it is for, it is probably collecting charts rather than serving a purpose.
If one dashboard is used for executive review, live incident response, and deep debugging, what is the structural design problem?
The stronger answer is role conflation. The dashboard is trying to satisfy conflicting audiences and will usually become too shallow for investigation and too noisy for summary use.
